In the wild, a horse forages its healthy diet—including various minerals and trace elements—by itself. Because our domesticated horses often eat too one-sidedly, Femke Dölle developed a mineral buffet for her horses. The horses can choose which water with a natural ingredient they want to drink. A healthy addition for your horse and it also stimulates natural foraging behavior. With this trial pack, you can make a mineral buffet for your horse 2 to 4 times!

The Original mineral buffet contains 5 natural ingredients:

  • 57 grams Celtic sea salt
  • 57 grams Icelandic seaweed
  • 57 grams diatomaceous earth
  • 57 grams mother earth
  • 57 grams spirulina

Use the recommended amount on the packaging. This way you can refill or replace the buckets a few times. You can also start with half a bucket per ingredient. Then halve the recommended dosage. This keeps the ingredients fresh and allows you to observe which minerals your horse prefers.

Important: Make sure your horse always has access to at least one source of clean drinking water with nothing mixed in. Place a bucket of clean drinking water next to the mineral buffet so your horse doesn’t drink the minerals out of thirst. This mineral buffet is suitable for every type of horse. Is your horse sick, or receiving medication or supplements by prescription? Then check with your vet or nutritionist whether you can offer the mineral buffet to your horse.

Horses in nature eat an average of about 86 types of plants per day. In the area where they live, over 300 different species grow from which they can choose.

Horses know exactly what their body needs based on zoopharmacognosy, also called self-medication.

By offering a mineral buffet, your horse can choose for itself again. It’s truly amazing to see them walk along the mineral buffet to smell, taste, and drink!

Prevent deficiencies and sand licking

In the wild, horses know exactly what to eat to stay healthy. A healthy horse's body usually produces its own vitamins. Because we often feed our horses a limited diet of hay and grass and maybe a pellet, it is not unlikely that they develop deficiencies.

You see your horse eating sand or scraping away earth to then lick the stones and ground underneath. To address deficiencies, I offer my horses a mineral buffet.
